We ensure to keep Pilates at the heart of our teaching while our combined experience and expertise allows us to cater for a wider range of training styles. We are committed to regular training to stay up to date with the latest methods and dedicate ourselves to giving you the best.
I have been practising Pilates for over 12 years now and believe it is something I will do forever. It has changed my life in more ways than one and couldn’t imagine a life without it. I truly believe everyone can benefit through Pilates and it is the perfect antidote to the modern lifestyle. I am passionate about teaching and believe we can all learn, I have complete faith in every single body that comes to the Lounge and I like to encourage you to achieve the most out of your body and improve from wherever you start. I believe in focus and quality of movement.
I take a lot of inspiration from world leading teachers and Tracey Mallet in particular for introducing me to bootybarre. I am very fortunate to be able to continue to develop and learn from some of the best of the best!
I know I’m obsessed. I love teaching, I love how it makes me feel and most of all I love how it makes others feel.
Since I was 14 years old I have exercised regularly, the majority of the time doing cardio exercise and over the last few years long distance running. I began practicing Pilates when, through running I developed a chronic back injury. After months of physiotherapy and injections, I was advised to try Pilates to strengthen my core which would in turn help my back injury. I was still in pain and ready to try anything. After my first class I was hooked! The stretches gave me so much relief and I could feel the benefit straight away. Pilates gave me a full body workout without causing harm to my joints. Over the months I advanced and could feel my strength improve week by week.
I can’t imagine my life now without practicing Pilates. I am so passionate about Pilates that I want to share and teach others! I want to challenge and inspire you. I love the flow and the breath element in Pilates as this brings a unique blend of challenge and calm together at the same time. You will work very hard but undoubtedly leave invigorated.
Sarah’s passion lies in getting the most out of your body. Her technical approach is to find the balance to where you are working but not stressing – a recipie for success that challenges the body towards change without injury. Her goal is for you to leave your class strengthened and balanced so you move as efficiently as possible and pain free.
Here’s what Sarah has to say…
I first started Pilates because I heard it was a great way to work the core and get a nice flat tummy, but I got so much more out of it! Pilates helped me think about my posture, improved my flexibility and made me feel great! I love it when people from the Lounge tell me how Pilates has helped them with toning up, building strength or even reducing the need for pain killers for things like back pain. Pilates has something for everyone, there are no age limits and you can really see the benefits building up week on week.
I have been going to gyms on and off for the last 10 years, but never finding a class that I felt was both challenging and fun. I wanted to improve my fitness and tone my body, but I never seemed to find a class that got me hooked; if it isn’t enjoyable or challenged you enough, why would anyone want go back or keep it up? Then I discovered barre over two years now at the Pilates Lounge and I have grown to become obsessed with the class, in a good way! Barre has changed my whole mantra on the bog standard ‘gym- class work out’ – it’s not about repetitive, boring, standard exercises designed to overwork the muscles and numb the brain – it is about strengthening your body in YOUR way, with fun, innovative ballet inspired moves that will lengthen and elongated your muscles and build your core.
As a Barre instructor, I want to encourage people to refine their barre techniques that will push them to their limits (or as far as you can go) to build strength and stamina. I strive to help you build on your form week after week, to get better, get stronger and improve on your own posture and physiques. It wont be an easy ride, but I can promise you it will be fun packed and will form a big part of your Pilates Lounge experience.
If I’m completely honest I never used to enjoy exercising, to me gyms were intimidating and I didn’t really feel like I knew what I was doing, because of this discovering the Pilates Lounge where the staff and clients are all so friendly and so welcoming was just incredible! I instantly became a regular in Barre and Yoga classes and found such a passion for Pilates that I decide to train as a teacher so that I could get other people into it and hopefully make them enjoy classes as much as I do, I want to show people that it really is for everyone!
My goal is to be 83 and still doing classes like Joseph Pilates himself!
For many years I had enjoyed all forms of exercise , mostly cardiovascular such as running and general exercise classes. I started to find that in an already busy life the constant ‘speeding up’ required for these forms of exercise was having a negative effect both physically and mentally.
I then discovered Pilates and the principles of combining physical and emotional well being while still being physically challenging. I gradually noticed positive changes in energy levels, muscle tone and strength, and joint ‘niggles’ also seemed to improve.
I’m now so passionate about the Pilates process and through teaching look forward to helping each person integrate the principles into their own lives. Whether to improve muscle tone or strength, aid recovery from injury or to focus more on the mental aspects such as reducing stress or helping to improve focus and concentration within ourselves, I really believe Pilates has a multitude of benefits for everybody.
I have always exercised and come from a dance background. Aside from dance I struggled to find an exercise regime that I liked and that complimented what I already did.
I found Pilates when I was pregnant with my third child, I did a pregnancy class and fell in love with Pilates!
After my daughter was born, I returned to both dancing and Pilates, I found that over time by body regained strength and tone that I hadn’t achieved after my previous pregnancies.
Pilates toned up my stomach and gave me muscles I didn’t know I had and the strength and flexibility I gained helped to improve my dancing technique and helped to keep injury at bay.
I have learned so much about myself through Pilates both physically and mentally and feel stronger and fitter than I ever did in my 20’s!
Finding the Pilates Lounge was the icing on the cake for me, this wonderful, friendly environment has been a joy to be a part of. Everyone is so welcoming and supportive and it has become such a big part of my life. I am passionate about Pilates and deciding to train to be a Pilates teacher has been one of the best things I’ve ever done. Enormously challenging but so very rewarding and it feels wonderful to share my love of Pilates with other people.
Initially I was intrigued & sceptical to see what Pilates could offer me – how could a low impact mat class give me a “total mind & body workout”?
I was truly amazed what happens when you bring your attention to your posture, breath & movement. Who knew such small precise & controlled movements could be so gentle yet challenging at the same time!
Fast forward 5 years – Pilates has become a routine part of my everyday life. The rewards are high – a strong body with long, lean muscles, just feeling the positive changes in your body, it’s addictive. Before you start to roll your eyes please read on……
I never realised just what an important role pilates would have in my life. Eighteen months ago I was literally stopped in my tracks – I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer resulting in major reconstructive surgery. Pilates was my saviour, it was my rehabilitation both physically & mentally, to get myself back to full body movement was extremely important for me. It was a slow progression at first but within a few months i was back!
This really brought my thoughts to how beneficial & life changing the pilates method can be. I am a walking talking example. Why would I not want to share this with others.
So, with lots of encouragement from Clare Watts, who is a fantastic teacher & mentor, teaching was the next (huge) step for me, to be able to pass on my experience & knowledge (ever growing), helping clients to be mindful of how their bodies move, building strength & gaining confidence in self belief.
It offers endless benefits for everyone – whether you’re looking to compliment your other sports, strengthing & conditioning, improving your posture or well being. Pilates does it all.
When you may be thinking “I’m too tired,” “stressed” or “a bit achy “ to exercise that’s the time for pilates to work it’s magic.
The Pilates Method has been taught since 1926 – is not just the next “fad,” it’s here for the longevity.
Patience, persistence & practice is the key. It’s never too late to start looking after yourself!
I started dancing from the moment I took my first two steps and haven’t stopped ever since. My dance career over the years has developed in many ways through training and performing in various shows, gigs and competitions all over the UK and into Spain. I trained all the way through school, both inside and outside of school, continuing to college where I gained a BTEC national diploma in dance. From here I trained at Stella Mann Performing Arts School for a year and I am now a qualified dance teacher under the International Dance Teachers Association. I am trained in many styles from ballet to contemporary to street. Finding the Pilates Lounge and being introduced to the barre classes has brought a new lease of life to my love of dance. The classes consist of fun, high energy movements that are integrated with the basics of ballet, giving you that whole body workout that is inclusive for all. The results that I have seen within myself have been amazing!! The classes really do tick all the boxes- toning, strengthening, developing flexibility, increasing the cardiovascular system, challenging and FUN!!
My love for yoga started with reading about it and wondering how something so seemingly straight forward could have so far reaching effects. I just had to try it and I was immediately hooked! My teaching style has been developing over the years and I now teach a moderately challenging flow type yoga aimed at creating space in your body as well as giving you physical and mental balance and strength. I always finish with a guided relaxation and I suspect some of my students enjoy that bit the most! 😉
I’m Rachel, I’m a fully qualified Yoga Alliance registered yoga teacher (RYT200).
I am trained in the practice of Hatha Yoga, which aims to balance & align your body, mind & spirit. “Ha” represents the sun & “tha” represents the moon. This refers to the opposite energies within ourselves. Hatha yoga is about balance. Hatha yoga uses a variety of types of posture (asana) & breathing (pranayama) in order to create balance within the physical body, the chakras (energy centres) & the mind.
My aim is to make my classes available to all abilities, I truly believe yoga is for everyone.

Discovering the Pilates Lounge is the best thing that I ever did. It has changed my life! After 18 months of attending I am now at my fittess and strongest that I have ever been. The classes are hard but enjoyable. All of the teachers are truly inspirational and Motivating.

Practising Pilates at the Lounge has been a life changing experience. Pilates has improved my posture, flexibility, confidence and Barre has helped with weight loss and given me amazingly toned legs! A warm friendly environment with patient and experienced teachers who have a sense of humour – a winning combination. Oh and the fellow Pilates and Barre Belles will become friends for life.

I’ve been going to Pilates Lounge in Sutton Coldfield for almost a year. I can honestly say it’s been life changing. The instruction, the environment, the class variety, the people are all amazing. Pilates is a way of life. Pilates at Pilates Lounge is fun, challenging and extremely rewarding for mind, body and soul.
Definitely the best classes ive ever taken. Im an absolute beginner but completely love it and hoping to try some more classes soon, childcare permitting .

This really is a special place for yoga, pilates, Barre etc. Everyone is very friendly and the owners are keen to provide the options which their customers want.
