Pilates is perfect for any sports professional or fitness fanatic. It works on creating even balance and conditions the whole body including the ankles and the feet! Many professional sports teams and athletes now use Pilates as an integral part of their training to improve performance with less chance of injury.
Pilates elongates and strengthens, improving muscle elasticity and joint mobility. Pilates incorprates functional movement patterns with a system where some muscles work while others release. Joseph Pilates said “True flexibility can only be achieved when all the muscles are uniformly developed”.
Pilates has calming effects that help reduce stress. One of the secrets of Pilates is we practice each movement with such attention and concentration, the body and mind unite. Learning to breathe properly is key. As you become more and more mindful of your breath, body and muscles, Pilates becomes more like a form of meditation, helping you relax.
Pilates re-educates you and your body to use healthy patterns that in turn develop a good posture. Using our muscles as they were designed to do enables us to move efficiently, takes pressure off compressed organs, improves circulation and reduces pain throughout the body. The fact that you create a trimmer appearance and you radiate confidence is a bonus!
One of the ways that Pilates creates long, strong muscles is by favouring a type of muscle contraction called an eccentric contraction. Eccentric contraction is used in Pilates more than most other types of exercise. The end result is long, lean muscles that work perfectly within the context of the body as a whole.
Pilates exercises develop a strong “core,” or centre of the body. The core includes the deep abdominal muscles and deep back muscles By integrating the trunk, pelvis and shoulder girdle we can control the centre and support the body. A nice side benefit is that the core training promotes a flatter tummy.
There is ample parking around our studio.
You can park for free outside Sutton Town Hall after 5pm. Outside these times you can park here and on Midland Drive for an hour free of charge.

In the event of a class being full we operate a waiting list; if somebody cancels and a space becomes available, the person at the top of the waiting list will automatically be moved onto the class. An email will be sent to you informing you so please keep an eye on your e-mails if you are waiting. You can remove yourself from the waitlist at any time – right up until class starts, likewise you can be moved on too. Please note that if you are moved onto the class from the waiting list, the cancellation policy still applies.
No, we provide space to store shoes and hang your coat but unfortunately this doesn’t expand to changing rooms. There are lockers for your valuables.
Nothing! Everything is here at the Pilates Lounge. We provide mats but you’re more than welcome to bring your own. A bottle of water for hydration is a good idea and any comforts you want for personal use such as a rolled up towel.
Pilates is for everyone interested in moving in a healthy way. Literally it is for everyone! It underpins our fundamental movement in life, including sports and other fitness activities. We work people from 18-80 of all walks of life and all different reasons. Pilates brings benefits to those who have never exercised before as well as to top athletes.
Pilates is a method of exercise and physical conditioning designed to stretch, strengthen, and balance the body. Pilates strengthens all the muscle groups, but particularly the deep “core muscles” which are so important to both our posture and our overall health and well being. Pilates teaches balance and control of the body, this not only brings improvements to movement in class but also other areas of your life.
The results you see from Pilates won’t just remain in the studio. You will learn to incorporate what you learn in your Pilates sessions into your daily lives – how you stand and walk, how you sit at the computer or drive a car, as well as more physical activities such as football, skiing, tennis, running, cycling, hiking, dancing or swimming.

When Joe Pilates taught it, he designed each programme to suit individual needs and only did a few group classes. Mostly exercises are tailored to address personal imbalances, strengths and weaknesses. You get undivided attention with plenty of opportunity to ask questions, seek clarification, stop and repeat a movement again. You get time to understand what you are trying to achieve with each exercise and the reasons for doing it in that particular way – so that you develop good technique.
If you buy a block of 10 classes – these will expire within 3 months of purchase date and 20 class passes within 6 months. Please click here for more information »
